New Super Mario Bros. Wii is a platforming game for the Nintendo Wii. It's the first sidescrolling Mario platform on a Nintendo home game console since Super Mario World for the SNES, which was released 19 years previously. It is seen as a semi remake of the Nintendo DS game New Super Mario Bros., although the Wii game is quite different. It has 8 different worlds, plus a bonus one. Each world has multiple levels with secrets to find, including alternate exits and star coins. For the first time in Super Mario Bros. history, the main game is able to be played by 4 different people at the same time. It also marks the return of the 7 Koopalings as major bosses.
New Super Mario Bros. Wii starts out like most other Mario platformers. Peach is kidnapped by the 7 Koopalings who are hiding inside a birthday cake. Mario, Luigi, and two toads rush off to find her, while some Toads at the castle use cannons to shoot out powerups in the worlds.
New to this game is the Propeller Suit and Penguin Suit. The Propeller Suit allows you to jump up then fly for a bit by shaking the Wiimote. It is similar but not identical to previous flying powerups. The Penguin Suit allows Mario to slide along the ground and shoot ice balls that freeze enemies. Penguin Mario can't slide very far on most terrains, but he slides fast and long on ice terrains.
The Music of New Super Mario Bros. Wii is very close to the music from the DS game. The main theme is almost the same, but it has some differences. The graphics are also similar, but there are some amazing new things in levels. The worlds are all pretty and beautifully designed.
